Description
This is a beautiful tanto/kanto knife/sword hand-forged with a full-tang Kobuse (1095 Clay Tempered & Folded Steel Mix) Steel Blade
This beautiful tanto/kanto sword is made with traditional kobuse steel, and has a full-tang blade. This samurai sword has a Black & Red Rayskin Premium Scabbard (Saya) and a Brown Dots on Yellow Scabbard Cord (Sageo), as well as a Red Rayskin Underwrap (Same’Gawa) wrapped by a Black Handle (Ito) which gives it a stunning, sleek look.
Kobuse steel is our highest-quality blade. 1095 Steel is folded to form the outer steel. It is folded 13 times, resulting in an 8192-layer structure that provides superior strength and flexibility. The blade’s visible tenuous undulating grain was created by folding it repeatedly during forging.
Clay-Tempered 1095 steel is used for the core steel. After thoroughly refining and tempering the steel, a special clay is applied by hand to the blade, with a thin layer near the edge and a thicker layer covering the remainder of the blade. This causes the edge to cool relatively quickly during quenching, resulting in a hard edge and a softer back. The beautiful genuine hamon on the blade is also a result of the blade’s differential cooling (quenching and tempering).
The blade is then polished using a Hazuya stone, which is a very thin Uchigumori stone fixed with paper. Hazuya is a special stone used to bring up hamon; the stone is extremely fine and soft against the steel. This sword’s blade is entirely finished in Hazuya. The work is carried out in order to achieve a mirror-like surface on the shinogi-ji and its edge.
Our master swordsmiths take their time to make sure each one has just enough detail so they can stand apart from all others; every piece looks as though it belongs right where its meant: on top quality blades such as these only found within storybooks or movies about medieval Japan… Each of our swords is made with the artistry and care that only a true craftsman can provide. We make every blade to order, using traditional techniques passed down through generations in an effort to ensure top quality for you! No two pieces are alike thanks their unique designs which were handcrafted specifically for each client based on what they want out of their weapon – whether it be cutting ability or just a piece of art for the house; we’ve got something perfect just for you at Swords For Sale.

Nowadays, there are countless swordsmiths all over Longquan… All still following the traditional swordsmaking tradition. And you can guess, we only work with the best of them.
