Wakizashi
The wakizashi, known by its Japanese name meaning side-inserted sword, was among the most popular swords used by Samurais in feudal Japan. The wakizashi sports a blade that is a bit smaller than the katana's.
In fact, Samurais used the wakizashi in combination with their main sword, which was usually the katana. In the Edo period, wearing two swords served as an official indication that the wearer was a samurai or swordsman... And the samurai's preferred combination was the katana and the wakizashi, a long-short blade union which is now part of their legend.
