Ninjato
The ninjato, as per its name, was one of the favorite weapons of the shinobi (ninja). This Ninja sword was a bit different from its popular counterpart, the katana.
The difference is simply in the blade... it's usually straight instead of curved. It's a different kind of weapon for a different kind of fighter, as the shinobi loved to have an extensive arsenal to surprise their opponents. In fact, they had sometimes a scabbard that was longer than the sword in order to hide other weapons inside of it.

One thing to know is that the existence of this sword legendarily used by ninja" before the twentieth century has not been established. However, it is believed that the designs demonstrated by alleged replicas are based on the design of wakizashi or chokuto swords... Swords that the ninja and ashigaru wore extensively.
